As one-by-one each brand unveils their spring/summer 2012 campaign, the anticipation as to what model(s), photographer and location will be featured rivals the pre-season buzz surrounding each collection. Even a dodgy photo released back in December by Chanel of Alice Dellal peaking out behind a curtain whilst being photographed by Karl Lagerfeld, left fashionistats aghast: “Alice Dellal is the new face of the Chanel Boy Collection!” (As of yesterday the “shaven-haired fashion rebel” has also been revealed as the face of Marc by Marc Jacobs, gasp, shot by Juergen Teller and pictured with model Erik Andersson.)
Overwhelmed by the sheer mass of campaigns, at AnOther we have created our own spring/summer 2012 campaign interpretation – using an amalgam of the themes, locales and elements from a variety of this season’s offerings….
Exaggerated poses and flailing long limbs were seen in Robert Cavalli (Naomi Campbell, Kristen McMenamy, Karen Elson, and Daphne Groenveld shot by Steven Meisel) and Proenza Schouler (Natasha Poly photographed by Willy Vanderperre).
Mood lighting dramatically cast shadows across models in Jil Sander – as they peered through cracked glass and crept down staircases (Natasha Poly, Daria Strokous, Clement Chabernaud and Aiden Andrews shot by Willy Vanderperre), at Fendi (Arizona Muse shot by Karl Lagerfeld) and Yves Saint Laurent (Mariacarla Boscono shot by David Sims).
Sea and seaside locations created the backdrop for Chanel (Saskia de Brauw and Joan Smalls shot by Karl Lagerfeld), Giorgio Armani (Milou Van Groesen shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot), Givenchy (Gisele Bündchen, Chris Moore, and Simone Nobili), D&G (Samantha Gradoville, Valerija Sestic, Patrycja Gardygajlo, Alfred Kovac and Simone Nobili shot by Giampaolo Sgura), Calvin Klein Jeans (Lara Stone and Matthew Terry shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott) and Mulberry (Frida Gustavsson and Lindsey Wixson shot by Tim Walker).
The two standout props came in the form of candy-coloured ice creams, small and oversized, in both Mulberry and Louis Vuitton (Kati Nescher and Daria Strolous photographed by Steven Meisel) and retro cars featured in Prada (Elise Crombez, Ymre Stiekema, Katryn Kruger, Meghan Collison, Natasha Poly, and Guinevere van Seenus shot by Steven Meisel), Isabel Marant (Arizona Muse shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin), John Galliano (Constance Jablonski and Benjamin Eidem shot by Sebastian Kim).
And the prize for most theatrical and ambient setting goes to Moschino photographed in front of Rome’s magnificent coliseum complete with vintage Fiats circling (Kasia Struss shot by Juergen Teller).
Phew… And now onto the autumn/winter 2012 collections…
