The Another Man Issue Launch Event – April 14
To celebrate the new issue of AnOther Man with Jack White as cover star, Jefferson Hack and Alister Mackie invite contributors and friends of the magazine to a cocktail party at HIX. Having recently undergone a redesign with Laura Rule as the new Art Director and Ben Cobb as the new Editor, the magazine is enjoying a renewed energy and inspiring new creative direction.
In Utero at Machine-A – Until April 17
Soho gallery/boutique Machine-A is hosting a great new window installation by hair stylist and prop designer Tomihiro Kono. Entitled In Utero, the display is inspired by the idea of body-restraint, originating from the act of being restrained as a foetus in the womb. The display is a dramatic visual experience, assaulting passers by with a mix of Kino’s props, broken glass, woven string webs and a prosthetic heart.
Coachella Festival – April 16 - 18
The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is back this weekend. For those lucky enough to make it over to the Coachella Valley in the Colorado Desert, they can expect an amazing selection of music and art and some glorious sunshine. Highlights include Gil Scott Heron, The Dead Weather, Pavement, Thom Yorke and Charlotte Gainsbourg, amongst many others.
Achtung Berlin Film Festival – April 14 - 21
This annual festival celebrating new German cinema focuses on films created in Berlin, with the Achtung Berlin – New Film Award. However there is a mix of work on show ranging from low budget to award winning and international productions giving a view of lesser-known gems of the film world. Achtung Berlin presents 70 contemporary feature and documentary films with a series of conversations with writers, directors and producers.
Billy Childish ‘Unknowable but Certain’, ICA – Until May 2
Self-imposed art outsider Billy Childish works across genres, as a poet, an artist, a musician and a filmmaker. His solo exhibition at the ICA features books, films, music, paintings and poetry in a tribute to his far reaching work and his complicated character.
