This weekend saw a riotous launch party take place to celebrate both AnOther Magazine’s 23rd issue and the opening of cult New York brand rag & bone’s first London store. Yet, it is a homecoming of sorts for the label, as David Neville and Marcus Wainwright, who head up the brand, are both British by origin, and first met twenty years ago at school in Berkshire. But it was in their move across the Atlantic that rag & bone was born, with the pair known for clothes that marry Savile Row tailoring excellence with the insouciant street style of the native New Yorker.
In celebration of the opening of the London flagship, this week Neville and Wainwright will be selecting their favourite things and sharing them on the AnOther Loves stream. And here we premier their first posts, with Neville choosing the Brass Monkey in New York’s Meatpacking district, and Wainwright going for Leica Cameras, the iconic brand first founded in Germany in 1913. To celebrate their first posts, we ask the pair what inspired their Loves, and what they are excited about for the new season.
Marcus, why did you choose to love Leica cameras?
I love Leica Cameras because they are basically perfect. They have one soul point in life and that’s to be a photographers tool. No bells, no whistles, just the most beautifully made, perfect piece of equipment I have ever seen. They are timeless and a joy to take pictures with.
David, why did you choose to love the Brass Monkey in New York?
The Brass Monkey is a great bar, owned by our good friend Sean. We’ve had lots of good times there.
What are you both looking forward to about autumn?
Marcus: “I am looking forward to a holiday! Anywhere with a beach!”
David: “Hopefully a trip to Vermont, watching the Yankees win games and having confit de canard at Balthazar!”
