Launched in 1925 as a fur and leather specialist shop, Fendi accessories first became popular with the Jazz Agers of the decade. The famous FF logo was created much later, in 1965, as the label collaborated with Karl Lagerfeld to revolutionise the future of fur. For A/W13, the brand has gone back to its roots, with a metamorphic display of mink, fox, goat and crocodile that pulled on punk, grunge and elements of late 90s dance, fuelled by the glaring clatter of The Prodigy’s Firestarter. Fur was slashed and spiked in geometric patterns, mixed with multiple cashmeres, silk and wool, doubled up with neoprene. Models wore striking fur mohawks styled by Sam McKnight, creating a flock of feathered hairpieces worn with burnt purple pouts, inspired by Kiki de Montparnasse, a creative socialite of 1920s Paris who many believe to be the first truly independent woman.

The beauty however was in the detail – the three-dimensional embroidery, braided mink and micro sequins, paired with fur-covered sunglasses, chokers and an ensemble of multi-faceted clutch bags, where fur was collaged to form stripes and even eyes, trimmed with ruffles and further tufts.
