There are always a handful of collections that one will want to revisit after show season has ended. Riccardo Tisci’s beautiful A/W13 collection for Givenchy is a perfect case in point. At the time, the most striking aspects were the brilliantly vibrant wet-look, kiss curls created by Luigi Murenu, the floral prints, the Bambi motif and the biker jackets. Now, let us contemplate the theme of the collection and the role of Antony Hegarty.
“If there is to be a future on earth that includes us, it will be feminine”
On each guest’s seat, was a ‘manifesto’, handwritten by Antony Hegarty, entitled ‘FUTURE FEMINISM’. His joined-up, centred script discussed the question of man’s historical position in society. “Women must step forward and start to forge a new way for our species and for all of nature. If there is to be a future on earth that includes us, it will be feminine.” Hegarty, a longtime friend of Tisci, performed three songs at the show including the powerfully heartfelt You Are My Sister, dressed in a black Givenchy robe, to the accompaniment of a full orchestra.
