The Prada Prints on Polaroid

If one were asked to break Prada down into five key words, one of those would certainly be print. Over the past few decades, Mrs Prada has masterfully rolled out prints which have become iconic: cats, mythical fairies, bananas and 50s cars. For her S/S14 menswear collection, the focus was paradise and the exotic. But in a typically Pradaesque way, Miuccia turned the idea entirely on its head: "the cliché of the exotic – and the cliché of summer."

There were slight nods to the traditional Hawaiian shirt in the floral prints. But their colour palette – a mixture of deep, rich hues – made the results feel modern, even more so when contrasting prints were worn together. The summer theme continued with a sunset jumper and stencilled images of sunbathing guys and girls.

Following our documentation of the menswear shows in London on a disposable camera, photographer Andrea Olivo took Polaroid snapshots backstage at the Prada show in Milan. The men's (and women's, which will be sold as part of Resort) prints are complemented by the film's raw processing effect.
