On day two in our journey back through the AnOther Magazine archive, we discover a fantastical centrefold created by John Galliano and Steven Klein
“I want people to question their fantasies”: John Galliano
The unbridled romance and creative delirium of John Galliano is always wilfully out on a limb. It never fails to lift aside even the most jade fashion spirits His technical prowess aside, Galliano is also an image-maker par excellence – witness the transformation, in this designer’s fair hands, of Christian Dior from tired status label to hot commodity. For this issue of AnOther Magazine, he puts this particular talent into practice as guest art director of the centrefold.
“It was all about mixing the rough with the smooth, the hard with the refined.”
“It was all about mixing the rough with the smooth, the hard with the refined.” In collaboration with photographer Steven Klein the designer has ensured just that, bringing out the masculine in the female subject, and the feminine in the male, to unnerving and powerful effect. “I was very interested in collaborating with Steven Klein for the first time. I admire his work, the way he fuses refined and savage, history and modernity. All of that served as an inspiration,” says Galliano.
