Derek Peck, this week's AnOther Lover, is a well-travelled photographer, writer, founder and artistic director of PLANET magazine. He is also a regular columnist for AnOther. Originally from California, having lived in Mexico, Guatemala and Paris, Derek is currently based in New York. The item Derek loved was a pair of Michael Jackson’s dancing shoes photographed by Henry Leutwyler for his beautiful book Neverland Lost: A Portrait of Michael Jackson, which documents objects from the late superstar’s home.
Why did you choose the shoes?
They're a beautiful testament to the idea that spirit can exist in matter — Michael is in those shoes.
What's the last thing you bought?
A book. Elia Kazan's notebooks on directing. Brilliant.
What's your most treasured possession?
Either my turn-of-the century (as in 1900) pewter Japanese opium box with erotic engravings, or my sandalwood Buddhist mala beads, which have been around my neck everyday since 1995.
