Taste and memory are inextricably bound, and for our digital cover star Margherita Maccapani Missoni the fondest and most poignant memories are conjured by a beetroot and goat’s cheese sandwich from New York’s Grandaisy Bakery. The bread is widely considered the best in New York, having gained numerous accolades in the city’s press.
Why did you pick this sandwich?
The beet and goat’s cheese sandwich from Grandaisy Bakery in NYC brings me back to a time in my life that has happily ended, but that I'm very melanchonic about.
How and when did you first come across it?
I used to live right on top of the bakery for three of the five years that I spent in NYC, and that sandwich rescued me quite a few times as well as having serving as a great hangover remedy.
When will you get to eat it again?
I still go back every time I'm in town as the taste of it brings back so many memories.
