For this week's column, talent agent Greg Krelenstein takes us into the decision making process behind AnOther’s Decade in Style – a portfolio of the most important designer fashion of the last decade, and the style icons who wore it.
Greg Kelenstein: There was some debate about how we were going to define these girls. They needed to be influential on the carpet and off it; it couldn’t be someone who just existed on the screen. Over the decade, there have been so many influential women, but we needed real fashion icons. We also had to make it work with the designers we’d picked and find the right girl to embody them. If a girl was great, but we couldn’t find a designer pairing, we had to let it go. The ones that rang true for me were those who had a genuine relationship to the brand, like Winona Ryder and Marc Jacobs, Natalie Portman and Lanvin, even Courtney Love and Givenchy. There were people that came to the project in the later days like Blake Lively, and that was really exciting because Blake is so current, and Gossip Girl is such a pop culture phenomenon at the end of this decade. I think it was important that we had people like that in there, who were more unexpected

What have been the high points of this decade for you?
Tilda Swinton: My high points of this decade have been my children's third, fourth, fitth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth and eleventh birthdays.
What has been the most surprising thing about this decade?
Eva Mendes: Every decade is a revelation, just by definition. Everything old is new again. Of course 20 years ago, we all thought we would be wearing space-suits and driving hovercrafts by now and that hasn’t happened…yet.
What's the best way to describe your relationship to YSL?
Natalie Portman: Alber's Lanvin designs are always exactly what you want to wear: they are elegant, feminine, understated, and most exquisitely constructed and detailed. And they contain the underlying spirit of the visionary behind them – Alber's humour, intelligence, and extreme love and respect for women.
What has been the most surprising thing about the 00s?
Scarlett Johanssen: That we continue to consume as much as we do when we witness the consequences of these actions all around us. However, I feel hopeful that this dependency is going out of style and we will be able to adapt to the idea of conscious consumerism.
How do you feel when you wear Chanel?
Vanessa Paradis: When wearing Chanel, at any hour of the day or night, I stand up straighter – the garments give me a confidence, which ordinarily I lack.
What have been the high points of this decade for you?
Christina Ricci: I really loved the beauty looks inspired by actress Brigitte Bardot. I feel like the 00s were all about sultry lined eyes with thick lashes against soft, natural glowing skin.
What's the best way to describe your relationship to Margiela?
Carine Rotifeld: It’s one of faithfulness. I started as a model on one of his first fashion shows and today, twenty years later, I am writing in his anniversary book as Editor-In-Chief of Vogue Paris.
What have been the high points of this decade for you?
Kirsten Dunst: Graduating high school, moving to New York, and opening a zoo.
What's the best way to describe your relationship to Miu Miu?
Chloe Sevigny: A flirty dance where I slip into it every now and again and remember what makes it so special.
What has been the most surprising thing about this decade?
Mary-Kate Olsen: Nothing... It’s fashion.
