Jean Paul Gaultier revelled in the regal and the otherworldly in his A/W14 show

Arguably, one of Jean Paul Gaultier's finest hours was as the costume designer for the pop-future-fantasy The Fifth Element, starring an electro-wigged Milla Jojovich in cut-out silver spacewear. His A/W14 collection brought these exuberantly eccentric sartorial memories flooding back. Shown on a glamorous facsimile of a plane runway, complete with ticket checking guards, the catwalk was populated with shimmering, otherworldly figures sporting sequined spacesuits, cosmonaut-inspired netted helmets and furry crowns, who would not have been out of place either five miles in the air or five centuries in the future.
