AnOther presents Ben Toms' film shot on the set of his youthfully charged fashion story for AnOther Man S/S14
In the S/S14 issue of AnOther Magazine, Ben Toms photographed a series of street-cast London boys in an eclectic array of trenchcoats, denim, leather jackets and cotton parkas, by the likes of Saint Laurent, Jitrois, Prada, Baracuta and Lanvin. Styled by Robbie Spencer, the result was a very British array of skinheads, skaters and musicians who together exuded a gritty, youth-charged energy, with layered clothing balanced against collage and portraiture.
“The starting point for the story was working on the casting with Jess Hallett. We wanted to shoot a photographic portfolio of London boys, and the casting that Jess put together set the mood of the shoot,” Toms explains. “Some of the boys were skaters, art students and musicians and these things informed the style of the whole. We shot at a studio in Wapping and on the surrounding streets in December. Robbie and I have always loved working on casting stories and it's been something we've incorporated into our work together over the past 9 years. I love the challenge of photographing individuals and putting them together into a collection of different characters.”
