Ryan Lo’s sugar-sweet disco collections pull on pop-culture and fantasy, laden with sequins, kitsch and sass representative of Ryan's own vibrant character. Graduating through the Fashion East initiative, he focuses on the Ryan Lo girl in her quest for romance, embracing nineties nostalgia from Ally McBeal to Sex and the City. We love Ryan for his humour, for his own personal style and for his glitter-packed lurex collections. He is a refreshing breath of good fun amidst the fashion week rush. For S/S15 we asked Lo to share with us some of his favourite fashion week selfies.
Titled Club Tropicana, his S/S15 collection recalled on pop icons Blondie, Cyndi Lauper and (pre-movies) Carrie Bradshaw for a paradiso collection of ruffled bikinis, crochet bustiers, frills and flower motifs. Inspired by Lo’s favourite childhood films Miss Saigon, South Pacific and Muriel’s Wedding, mermaids-cum-models relaxed on pink deckchairs within a set belonging to an 80s Beach Barbie. As the show notes stated, “Ryan Lo’s lovelorn girl finally caught a break."
