As the dust settles on London Fashion Week S/S15, we pick our top five beauty moments
From Westwood’s political statement to Meadham Kirchhoff’s eyelash-trimmed dresses, London Fashion Week has been a memorable rush of print, colour and anarchy, underpinned by a sugar-sweet femininity. Aloha holiday vibes have carried most collections, along with sheer fabrics, latex and leather, laden in bondage references and a youth-charged teen spirit. Here, we pick our favourite beauty moments from the London shows.
Meadham Kirchhoff’s Anarchy
Meadham Kirchhoff’s collection of latex, lycra, provocative print and bullet-breasts packed a renegade punch, accented by teased palm-tree ponytails tied with ribbon and fabric scraps, inspired by Slits’ frontwoman Ari Up. Street-cast models (there was an open casting held prior to the show) sported hard, fuscia blusher, neon eyebrows, eyes scribbled in fluorescent colour and black nipples.
Vivienne Westwood Red Label’s Theatrical Make-up
Westwood’s politically-inspired collection centred around the Scottish referendum, the designer adding ‘Yes’ badges to her anarchic model pirates in vocal favour of independence. Girls swashbuckled in corsetry, military regalia, tricorn hats and ruffled shirts with architectural necklines and orb motifs. MAC painted each face with dramatic stripes, scribbles and stitched doll lips, somewhat reminiscent of The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Sibling’s Bow Hairbands
Sibling, formerly known as Sister by Sibling, dropped its feminine forename this season in favour of closing the gender gap between its male and female lines. However big-bow head bands and tangerine lips kept a girl’s touch on proceedings, played against slogan T-shirts, ruffled tiers and bright transparencies.
Marques'Almeida’s Teen Angst
Marques'Almeida upped their grooming game this season with wild back-combing and hollow eyes accented by thick kohl eyeliner, neon washes and pale skin. The introspective collection took a more personal look at the Almeida girl, whilst still holding onto her moody teen-rebel 90's streak.
Tom Ford’s Sex Appeal
We have always known the Tom Ford man to be sexy, and as of this week, so is the Tom Ford woman. It was a retro-1960’s obvious kind of sexy: thigh-skimming hemlines met by fishnet stockings, sequin barely-there dresses, transparent tops with statement cups and bejewelled breasts. Bed-head sex hair was the vibe, with voluminous teased hair and falling side fringes, worn with heavy dark eyes.
