An uncharacteristically flowery Anjelica Huston wins the Loves vote for Peghah Maleknejad
Why is it always a thrill to see the famous in their younger days? From the pre-hairdresser hairstyles to the pre-stylist denim decisions, it is eternally fascinating to catch a glimpse of an actor or musician in the blithe unselfconsciousness of non-celebrity, before paparazzi loomed and uncontroversial soundbites became their first language. Anjelica Huston isn’t the best example of this – as John Huston’s daughter and Walter Huston’s granddaughter, she's the third generation in a dynasty that truly warrants the clichéd moniker “Hollywood Royalty”. But despite being famous since birth, her evolution from Vogue model to Oscar winning actress remains newsworthy, as proved by the Loves vote victory of this picture of the youthful Anjelica, chosen by Another Man fashion assistant Peghah Maleknejad.
It is a truism that the children of the famous follow a rocky road to happiness – being born into wealth and celebrity all too often leads to determined plummeting off the rails. But Huston has largely dodged this, spending her youth on her father’s film sets and being photographed by Helmut Newton, Richard Avedon and Bob Richardson, and her latter years as Wes Anderson’s muse and the definitive Morticia Addams. She is a grande dame of cinema, described by Tim Blanks who interviewed her for AnOther Magazine S/S08 as being “dipped in darkness”, still retaining the enigma that she had when she was being shot with flowers in her hair.
So to celebrate the victory of Huston in the Loves vote, here we ask Maleknejad to recall any floral fashion moments of her own, alongside a gallery of our favourite stars when young.
