We consider Céline's multi-coloured accessories for Resort 2015
Who? While the days may be getting darker, things at Céline have just got a whole lot brighter. The French fashion house has released a series of multi-coloured bags, adding brilliant rainbow stripes to their classic luggage, trapeze and pouch styles.
What? Channelling the 1970s, the bags are part of the Céline Resort collection, which also features rib knit tube dresses in playful lollipop stripes, placed sporadically throughout Philo’s monochromatic line-up. They hark back to Céline's linear aesthetic, while also being typical of Phoebe Philo’s own niche take on surrealism. Philo has long been associated with the It bag, having previously overseen the creation of the iconic Paddington and Silverado Bags at Chloé, before moving to Céline in 2008. The key has always been in her details, reinventing the classic tote style each season. Prices start at £1,250, with a smaller clutch coming in at approximately £240.

Why? The multi-coloured bags have an artist's touch, reminiscent of an Ellsworth Kelly grid or Martin Creed’s colourful bars. It is also not the first time Philo has had a painterly approach to her work: Sonia Delaunay’s colourful swirls were the inspiration behind her S/S14 collection of vibrant brush strokes, while A/W14 was influenced by Hannah Höch's surrealist collage work. Philo’s mother was an art dealer and graphic artist who had a hand in creating David Bowie’s 1973 Aladdin Sane album cover, and there is a flavour of this in Céline's colourful new lines.
Céline's multi-coloured bags are available now.
