We take a look at Ally Capellino's ice cream palette for S/S15
For S/S15, Ally Capellino has created a rose-tinted collection of rucksacks, satchels and bike-bags in ice cream shades and pastel hues. “Colour was the starting point. I looked at the cutesy, punky pastel with black combinations,” explains Capellino. “I wanted to make things a bit more punchy.”
The collection is presented in a peaches-and-cream-style look book photographed by Agnes Lloyd-Platt. Leatherware is positioned alongside minty waves and metallic kinks, with a token canine thrown in for good measure. “I found it hard to ignore the pastel palette of the S/S15 collection, all ice cream colours punctuated with black accents,” says Lloyd-Platt. “The concept for the look book imagery is an extension of that. I used simple colour-blocking and set design to create tonal layers in a series of portraits and still lifes, highlighting the seasonal shift in colour and the wonder of hair dye.” AnOther picked up on the pastel hair craze last year, which has since shown no sign of slowing down. No doubt next year's Pan and Little Mermaid film releases will encourage a fresh wash of candy hair tones, in line with Capellino's S/S15 release.
Alison Lloyd and Jonathan Platt founded Ally Capellino in 1980, the Italian name roughly translating as ‘little hat’. The brand has since become a London staple, noted for its soft leather accessories, imbued with Capellino's irreverent wit and playful charm. Lloyd has previously named her bags after cabinet ministers, and worked on a short film last year titled Bums on Seats, exploring the way that we position ourselves on chairs. Her minimalist designs champion a quintessentially English spirit, made with supple leather, waxed cotton and metal hardware. For the first time, S/S15 also includes a Paper Group, with key styles crafted in cellulose paper. "I am particularly keen on the soft group," comments Lloyd, referring to her round, pillow shapes. "I love the colours and the bold contrast of the black bridle leather. The clutch, Kori, is my favourite, especially in green."
