As Gareth Pugh returns to London for A/W15, we take a look at some of his stunning archive polaroids
With Gareth Pugh set to make a highly-anticipated return to his home city during London Fashion Week, we present a preview of Lou Stoppard's feature with the inimitable and groundbreaking designer in the new issue of AnOther Magazine, accompanied by some of his archive polaroids.
On the presentation of his collections...
"People see my fashion the way I want them to see it because you want them to be a part of your world, you don't want to pander to somebody else's idea of your world. You want to be writing the script rather than reciting lines"
On Louise Wilson...
"She used to stress how odd it was that so much thought and consideration goes into the clothes for them to just get chucked down a runway – as they sometimes are – without much consideration for how the work is seen or perceived. To me, that is the one time you get to interact with a wider audience rather than just fiddling around with things in the studio."
On going with his gut...
"Selling clothes doesn't really keep me up at night. Instead, I think it's very important to go with your gut or heart and I think that's sometimes frowned upon by some people because ultimately it's a business and you can't run a business on confusion and emotion."
On showmanship...
"I'm not saying that I'm Lady Gaga or trying to inspire a generation, but, going back to my first show with Lulu [Kennedy], my intention was to do something that not only me but the audience watching found exciting. That's something that I've always strived to do."
