The first day of Milan fashion week brought an unexpectedly bold colour palette. Inspired by the late-seventies photographs of Guy Bourdin, David Bailey, and Chris von Wangenheim, Gucci’s Frida Gianni also cited Marrakech as a more exotic influence.

Rich colours combined with nudes and highlights of metallic, making way for a very luxe look for S/S11. Silhouettes enhanced the feminine form, with plunging necklines and cut-outs sensually revealing skin. Over at Alberta Ferretti things had a more innocent feel with whimsical, floor-sweeping, floaty dresses alluding to dreams and fantasy. Models appeared fairy-like as they graced the catwalk, their hair natural, make-up soft and colours pure.
