Celebrating the label’s 40th anniversary Roberto Cavalli created a spectacular setting for his S/S11 show on the final day of Milan fashion week. Erecting a tented greenhouse that appeared like a jungle with giant, exotic plants and flowers, models walked down a faux-suede covered catwalk under Napoleon’s Arco della Pace. Renowned for his artisanal printing techniques and signature animal prints, Cavalli did not disappoint, bringing an array of python into his collection that looked convincingly real. Fringing also made a powerful presence throughout, flowing from floor length dresses, tops and accessories. With dark, sultry make-up, barely there garments and much flesh on show Cavalli was one of the most sexually charged and suggestive collections of the week. Whilst revealing at times Dsquared² had a much looser and boxier silhouette. Preppy and boyish, models wore flat oxfords, trouser suits, sharp shirts and cardigans teamed with oversized glasses and straw hats. For night the masculine look prevailed with Sasha Pivovarova dressed in a bow tie and double-breasted satin dinner jacket, and Charlotte di Calypso in a tuxedo shirtdress.
