For the third issue of AnOther Magazine, master choreographer Michael Clark collaborated with Nick Knight on the fashion shoot End Of. Knight photographed Clark and his company of dancers wearing Leigh Bowery bodysuits, over-sized y-fronts designed by Clark and lots of Vivienne Westwood bomber jackets, as they simulated scenes of bathing in disused public toilets and a group beating. Sam McKnight styled the hair of the models and here he reminisces about working on the shoot in the early days of AnOther.
Sam McKnight: I worked on the first issue of AnOther Magazine with Nick Knight and from that point on I had no doubts about the direction the magazine was going in. I have learned to expect the unexpected. The dancers in the shoot for the third issue wore short dark destroyed wigs, which gave them a very anarchic presence in the environment that Nick chose to shot them. I wanted them to feel uniformed and part of a gang. It was very playful but the dancers were posing in such extreme positions that it made the shots very intense. My favourite picture is the profile of Michael Clark at the back of Park Royal Studios; I like his serenity amongst the chaos.
