AnOther celebrates Victoria Beckham Denim S/S12 in a short film by Quentin Jones
In this Exclusive, AnOther Website partners with fashion designer Victoria Beckham, recipient of the 2011 Designer Brand award at the British Fashion Awards. Young, playful and effortlessly chic, Victoria Beckham’s spring/summer 2012 Denim collection is brought to life in a Quentin Jones short imbued with the effervescent style of the French New Wave.
Conceived by Jones and AnOther Magazine fashion editor Agata Belcen, and inspired by Anna Karina dancing in Jean-Luc Godard’s Bande à part, the film is a kaleidoscopic mash up of unfurling illustrations, interwoven with jiving hands in bowties and a chorus line of multi-coloured denim-clad legs, all set to a finger clicking score by Pete Duffy. Robert Storey’s backdrop harks back to the film posters of La Nouvelle Vague, complete with stark lines, block colours and vintage cinema furniture.
The models shimmy through an eclectic, rustling landscape exuding beatnik cool, complete with Bardot beehives, smoky eyes and reworked versions of Jean Seberg’s iconic Breton stripes. There is an irrepressible, shoulder twitching energy to the piece, which chimes perfectly with the sunny joie de vivre of the collection, with its array of bright skinny jeans, washed-out tees, denim cut offs, stripes and vibrant prints.
