This week sees the men's autumn/winter 2011-12 shows kick off at Pitti Immagine in Florence before moving to Milan on Saturday. With the new season in mind, luckily the best of new menswear spring collections have arrived online. While most shops still have end-of-season remnants and Dover Street Market is currently closed for its bi-annual Tachiagari (the Japanese term for 'new beginning') as new season collections are installed, online retailers such as thecorner.com have plenty of spring/summer items to peruse. With a choice of forty-plus items at present, courtesy of designers including Rick Owens, Ann Demeulemeester and Marc Jacobs, AnOther have selected their key looks.
Rick Owens' spring/summer 2011 show, entitled Anthem, stood out and widely appraised. Long and layered in slate grey, black and deep brown tones, Owens' models walked through clouds of dry ice to pounding music, dressed in elongated collar-less frock coats, draped jersey vests, leather gilets, wader-like trousers and heeled leather boots. Picking up on the collection's key themes is this twill blazer with an asymmetric zip and pleated detailing. Feted for his minimalist approach, Neil Barrett showed sleek, utilitarian looks executed in a monochrome palette. There were quirky techniques at play — deconstructed collars and sliced off sleeves, bondage ties and crumpled and creased double-breasted short jackets. This long-sleeve cotton shirt, echoes those ideas in tartan with a shaded effect.
Damir Doma meanwhile, pursued a Slavic look, with jackets split across the torso, coats which ballooned at the hip, woven cotton blankets with tassels draped around the shoulders, butter soft leather jackets tied at the waist, jersey leggings and loose pants tucked into boots. In keeping with Doma's relaxed luxury sensibility is this short sleeved, lightweight knit crewneck with unfinished hems and shoe-string laces. AnOther also recommends these leather high-top boots courtesy of Italian shoemaker Marséll. Well, what you you waiting for?
