This week's AnOther's Lover Annoushka Giltsoff, head of press for a number of names* who recently posted an image of Yves Saint Laurent's desk.
The late designer's desk, was a trestle table with two supports. A trestle table is one of the earliest forms of table design and was a common structure in ancient Rome. Yves' desk was piled high with books, various well organised pen pots and a selection of cult objects. Behind the desk there was a framed portrait of Yves by the French Expressioninst Bernard Buffet and a cork board to which he pinned sketches, inspirations quotations, photos of friends, press clippings and his famous 'Love' posters which he sent every year to friends and associates. Underneath, was a bed and toys for his French bulldog, Moujik. His work station was situated in the far corner of his Avenue Marceau workshop, where the designer worked from 1974 up until his retirement in 2002. The room was rectangular with a light-coloured carpet and large mirrors at the far end; Yves' assistants worked from a black lacquered table situated to the left of his desk.
We caught up with Annoushka to find out the reasons behind her choice...
Why did you choose the Yves Saint Laurent desk?
I've been enamored with the designer since reading The Beautiful Fall a number of years ago. I visited last year's Yves Saint Laurent Retrospective at the Petit Palais in Paris and it opened with a beautiful installation featuring his desk. The desk sat quietly in a dimly lit black room with Bach playing. Against this was a loop of selected interviews with Yves Saint Laurent played intermittently, whilst images collected over the years appeared on screens. I was truly overwhelmed by this fleeting insight.
What's the last thing you bought?
My last dream purchase is a Givenchy Lalia Bugatti studded bag. My last actual purchase is a packet of chocolate HobNobs.
What's your favourite online shop?
I never buy online but love browsing Phillips de Pury.
