Manuel Bolaño presented his spring/summer 2011 collection during Barcelona Fashion week last summer. Entitled 'A Little About Me', the collection was presented theatrically, with beautifully constructed garments made of various exquisite fabrics and clashing textures.
Nationality: Born in Barcelona, raised in Galicia, Spain
Age: 26
Why was the title of the collection 'A Little about Me'?
It's a part of a trilogy of my last two collections, and this was the final instalment. Generally, all the clothes were inspired by people around me and who are part of my life.
What was your inspiration for this particular collection?
The summers I spent with my grandmother in Galicia, and when she passed away a few years ago I felt I had to make a tribute to her and express the love she gave me.
Why did you decide to use latex in the collection?
The texture of it reminded me the candles of the church I used to go with my grandmother when I was a child.
Do you have a favourite fashion designer?
Boudicca, as well as Alexander McQueen, Viktor & Rolf and Martin Margiela.
Plans or visions for the future? Would you like to do a couture collection someday?
In the short-term, I will present my next collection autumn/winter 2011 at 080 Barcelona Fashion. I'm not really sure about my future — I prefer to think about today and not tomorrow. I always say that my collections can be described as 'pret-a-couture' — there's not that much difference between my work nowadays and the style of a couture collection.
