Korean-American actress, model and AnOther’s January digital cover star, Kiko Mizuhara, is our Guest Lover on the AnOther Loves stream for the next two weeks. Having worked as a successful model for titles that include Seventeen, ViVi and Nylon, Mizuhara recently made her acting debut playing Midori – one of Japan’s biggest literary heroines – in the forthcoming screen adaptation of Haruki Muraki’s award-winning novel Norwegian Wood. Destined for global status, the film directed by Tran Anh Hung (The Scent of Green Papayas and Cyclo) generated huge hype at Toronto and Venice film festivals last year.
For her first Love Mizuhara chose a Fork Carpet made out of hundreds of plastic forks carefully positioned in intricate pastel-coloured patterns by design team Stijn van der Vleuten, Marcia Nolte and Bob Waardenburg, aka We Make Carpets. Blending modern materials with traditional carpet designs. Other imaginative floor coverings have included carpets made out of different shapes of dried pasta, miniature plastic army figurines, and medical tape.
Beautiful, charming and unusual the Fork Carpet is an apt choice for Mizuhara who is as equally beguiling as her chosen Favourite Thing. Here we speak to her about colour, wall art and vintage interiors.
Where did you find this Fork Carpet and why did you pick it?
I found it on my favourite blog. It looks like a real carpet from afar, but is actually made with forks! I'm really attracted by its delicacy and beautiful pale colours.
If you could own the Fork Carpet where would you put it and why?
I might get hurt if I lie down on it and it is too fragile anyway, so simply better to have it as wall art.
This carpet has a beautiful range of pastel colours, what are your favourite colours?
Light blue, pink, navy and red.
Are there any other unusual or interesting handcrafted home interiors that you like?
I have quite a few pieces of vintage furniture, unique lamps, and lots of cushions.
