Our AnOther 10th birthday cakes, designed by 10 of the world's leading designers and realised by 10 of the world's most talented cake makers and chefs are now (except one) on display in Selfridges Wonder Room Concept Lab until 21 February. The Lanvin cake, designed to feature a live model is being saved for AnOther's 10th birthday party on Thursday evening. After the performance, the cake will join the rest of the mouth-watering designs.
Curators Jefferson Hack and Annie Nichols chose to give Lanvin's design to London-based Sam Bompas & Harry Parr of Bompas & Parr. Alber Elbaz said, “I wanted to make a luxurious, tasty, happy and colourful yet chic birthday cake. I took inspiration from 1950s girls who jumped out of cakes – even though they were covered in cream they looked amazing! There are some pearls, and we use meringue at the centre, with cream, white chocolate, and truffles. The cake is big enough so that a real size girl can fit in it.” With a back catalogue of spectacular, ambitious, large-scale food designs, Bompas & Parr were well equipped for the challenge. They have used over half a tonne of sugar courtesy of Tate & Lyle, copious amounts of edible dyes and a cannonball with lashings of edible confetti.
