To celebrate the completion of our 10 designer cakes for AnOther Magazine's 10-year anniversary, Jefferson Hack and Selfridges' Creative Director Alannah Weston hosted a lavish birthday party last night. Guests including Daphne Guinness, Liberty Ross and project curator Annie Nichols enjoyed viewing the 10 cakes designed by 10 of the world's most innovative chefs and cake-makers, including the erotic Givenchy cake viewable through peepholes, in Selfridges Concept Store.
The party later moved downstairs to the department store's Ultralounge where birthday party favourites, including popping candy, candy floss and popcorn were served. A Candy Shop created by Lounge Bohemia offered toothpaste tubes of mint infused rum with crème de cacao and peas as well as candy inspired cocktail experiences such as vodka liquorice spaghetti and Cuba Libre jelly cubes. The centrepiece of the party was the cake designed by Alber Elbaz for Lanvin, a revolving three-tier, eight foot tall cake created by Bompas & Parr, using over half a tonne of Tate & Lyle Fairtrade sugar, from which performance artist The-O emerged to wish AnOther Magazine a happy birthday.
All the cakes are displayed in Selfridges’ Concept Store from Thursday 17 February to Monday 21 February 2011.
