Anya Hindmarch Pixels Bathurst Bag
Leather, suede lining, gold-tone clasp
Do computers dream when they sleep? That was the question posed by Anya Hindmarch when conceiving her Autumn/Winter 2016 collection. The British designer, who famously imbues her luxurious, precisely crafted accessories with a dash of wit, was reminiscing about the 1980s – a time when 8-bit graphics and arcade games were at the forefront of digital design. Fanciful experimentation with overblown pixellation and the application of iconic video game characters (such as pop culture effigy, Pac-Man) culminated in a spritely assortment of neat clutch bags, suede-lined shoppers, and key-rings so playful they could pass as toys.
If pressed, however, we would be inclined to swing for Hindmarch’s clever Pixels Bathurst handbag. Not only does its firm, square-set structure give the distinct impression of a woman in control, but its vivid palette – articulated through a modern take on traditional leather marquetry – imparts a jolly sensibility. It's at once pragmatic and knowingly optimistic, two qualities that are most certainly worth holding on to.
