A surreal translation of a loungewear favourite, this fluffy robe-style coat comes with Miuccia Prada’s seal of approval
Fur Coat, Miu Miu
Rabbit fur, 100% silk lining
The bathrobe is a garment that fulfils numerous requirements. Depending on material and fit, it can suit those with a homely disposition (for nothing beats stepping out of a long, hot bath and cocooning yourself in swathes of towelling) and it can also satisfy the desires of those who are more amorous in nature (visualise the satin spectre of Lauren Bacall gliding towards Humphrey Bogart in The Big Sleep).
It’s unsurprising, then, that our love for such a multifunctional item often extends beyond loungewear, influencing the silhouettes in everyday wardrobes via belted shirts, dresses, jackets and coats. Take this example from Miu Miu as a case in point, crafted from the softest multi-coloured fluff designed to reference a retro beach towel. A coat to eat your seaside fish and chips in this is not, but it certainly wouldn’t be out of place on Miuccia Prada’s S/S17 iteration of a “strange beautiful beach, where you feel like you discover you’ve arrived on another planet.” Alternatively, throw it nonchalantly over any ensemble – lingerie and hosiery are encouraged – to ensure that you’ll look suitably summery in the bedroom, bathroom and beyond.
