For Imran Amed, the editor and founder of The Business of Fashion – an essential daily online resource for fashion creatives, executives and entrepreneurs – the CALGARY bag by Bill Amberg for BoF was a likely choice for his favourite thing. A fashionable bag, made for the “urban professional,” as Amed explains, it is also the result of his collaboration with the prestigious leather goods house. Named CALGARY after the Canadian city where Amed was born, each bag was designed and created at The Bill Amberg Studios in London and individually handmade by a Bill Amberg leather craftsman.
An interesting concept, with six limited edition bags already on sale, there will also be three other versions made – Black Smooth Cowhide, Lead Patent and Borwn Cowhide – based on crowd sourced data provided by the BoF community over a period of three weeks, with final production quantities informed by the results of the feedback.
Here Amed explains the reasons behind his pick and who the ideal wearer of one of these CALGARY bags would be.
What is it about this bag that makes it your favourite thing?
Well, for one, it's not everyday that a legendary leather goods craftsman offers you the chance to collaborate on a bag designed to suit your every last whim. But more importantly, it's because it really does fit into the way I live my life, with pockets for all my technology, some gym kit, and enough space for notebooks and magazines. It's an office on the go.
Which is your preferred colour and why?
We selected a variety of colours in hopes that both men and women would find the bag appealing. I'm keeping mum on my favourite for now as it is a question we have put to our community and will shortly be announcing the results on BoF. There's a few more days left to participate in the survey here.

The craftsmanship and care with which each product is made, combined with excellent functionality and usability. Bill Amberg products help make life better and more stylish.
Who is the ideal wearer of one of these bags, how should they were it and what with?
The ideal wearer is an urban professional, with an active lifestyle and a love for technology. We designed it with a view that users should be able to use it at all occasions from day into evening.
