In celebration of the limited edition split double 7” release – with original and individual artwork on each of the 200 packages by Shrigley – Rough Trade East are hosting a unique in-store evening entitled “A Musical Related Event” with Shrigley
Who? Launch event of Edition Fieber Shrigley/Thee Oh Sees 7" featuring David Shrigley & Iain Shaw at Rough Trade East.
What? Glaswegian artist David Shrigley has a way with words. Known for his mordantly humorous freehand cartoons and annotations, Shrigley has recently turned his attention to the world of music, teaming up with legendary Californian psych band Thee Oh Sees on an Edition Fieber record. After having created the music video for Blur’s Good Song and Bonnie Prince Billy’s Agnes, Queen of Sorrow, Shrigley’s latest endeavour features self-penned lyrics delivered in his signature witty and deadpan vocal to a backdrop of electronics by Martin Young, with accompanying tracks by Thee Oh Sees.
In celebration of the limited edition split double 7” release – with original and individual artwork on each of the 200 packages by Shrigley – Rough Trade East are hosting a unique in-store evening entitled “A Musical Related Event” with Shrigley djing and a live set by Iain Shaw playing songs on his guitar utilising Shrigley’s words. Also a Glasgow-based artist who uses weird folkisms and songsmithery, Iain Shaw has previously produced an engaging and quirky song Dinosaur Egg taken from one of Shrigley’s poems.
Why? Whilst the UK exclusive event centres on the launch of the Fieber Editions Shrigley/Thee Oh Sees limited edition 7”, you will also get a chance to meet the man behind those infamous words. And if you can’t afford the steep price tag of the collaboration (£129.99), this free entry, one-off event will at least give you a small slice of the action and a step into the weird and wonderful world of Shrigley.
'A Music Related Event' David Shrigley + Iain Shaw, Rough Trade East takes place on this Thursday October 6 at 7pm, free entry.
