From the arrival of ASAI’s ‘It’ Hot Wok top to a super-soft capsule collection from MM6 Maison Margiela, a shopping list for the month ahead
1. ASAI’s Hot Wok Top Has Arrived at Browns
The Hot Wok top, created by rising star A Sai Ta for his eponymous label ASAI, is the most coveted It-garment to emerge from the ranks of London’s young design talent in years. So coveted, in fact, that Hot Woks have sold out in a matter of minutes online, and mere hours at Dover Street Market and at Browns, where they arrived this week for the first time. The body-hugging, sheer turtleneck, which comes in a plethora of unique tye-dye colourways, has been spotted on everyone who is everyone, praised for its versatility, comfort and ability to make a statement all at once. Quick: get shopping before it’s too late. HT
2. The A/W99 Fendi Baguette Is Back
“It’s a Baguette!” Carrie Bradshaw famously cried out during a scene in Sex and The City season three, when she is mugged on the streets of New York for her designer accessories. This brief on-screen moment helped to turn the Fendi Baguette bag into a lasting noughties fashion sensation, with the style having a recent resurgence almost 20 years later, for the brand’s S/S19 and A/W19 collections. The purple sequinned iteration created for Fendi A/W99 (and carried by Bradshaw during her unfortunate robbery) has re-launched today – in a slightly darker shade than the one donned by SJP – and is available for pre-order now on Fendi.com. 3. Aesop Has Launched Its First Cleansing Milk
Those with sensitive skin will be all too aware of that “too tight” feeling which came with the astringent glycolic-acid heavy cleansers of our youth – Aesop’s new cleansing milk provides the answer in the form of the brand’s most gentle cleanser yet. A non-foaming emulsion years in the making, Gentle Facial Cleansing Milk contains extracts of lavender and sandalwood – renowned for their soothing qualities – alongside grape seed oil for the swift removal of a day’s worth of dirt. 4. Alec Soth’s New Book Is His Most Intimate Yet
The latest book from Alec Soth is a beautiful meditation on portraits and interiors, the American photographer having stepped back from the epic “grand narrative” projects that he became known for earlier in his career. I Know How Furiously Your Heart is Beating brings together 35 photographs of people in their own spaces, forming an intimate look at portraiture and personality which saw Soth’s approach to his medium soften. 5. MM6 Maison Margiela Has Created a Super-Soft Capsule Collection
The interior of the Maison Margiela office and atelier in Paris is painted entirely white, furniture is covered in white cotton sheets and staff are required to wear a blouse blanche, a white lab-style coat. A new capsule collection from MM6 Maison Margiela follows suit: six items, from a T-shirt and bag to a dog-shaped keyring, have been imagined in soft, padded all-white fabric, like a pillow. The whole capsule is available on ssense.com now. JM
6. Kiko Kostadinov’s First Camper Lab Collection for Women Has Arrived
This month sees the launch of Kiko Kostadinov’s first – and much-anticipated – women’s collection for Camper Lab. Spearheaded by Australian sisters Laura and Deanna Fanning – who, after graduating from Central Saint Martins last year, were made creative directors of Kiko Kostadinov womenswear, which debuted for S/S19 – the joint line encompasses two futuristic styles; a semi-open, panelled ankle boot, and its knee-high iteration. Kiko Kostadinov x Camper Lab is now available at camper.com. EP
7. Comme Des Garçons Has Launched Brand New Logo Wallets
When it comes to cult accessories, few have stood the test of time quite like Comme des Garçons’ perfectly formed leather wallets. This month, they release six all-new iterations of the covetable purses: among the styles in black and red colourways are coin pouches and zip-up wallets in various sizes, all emblazoned with a contrasting white Comme des Garçons logo. Head to Dover Street Market (or its e-shop) to buy. EP
8. Your First Chance to Buy Supriya Lele’s S/S19 Collection
For Spring/Summer 2019, rising talent Supriya Lele celebrated her dual British and Indian cultural heritage by drawing inspiration from a family photo album. After showing with the Fashion East incubator for three seasons, her subversively sensual collection of layered, skin-tight sheer tulle and chiffon saris and sportswear-like nylon marked her first standalone presentation on the London Fashion Week schedule – find it now at Browns.
