A Curation of Luxurious Things to Buy This Month

From a Dior bucket hat and a new Comme fragrance to, well, everything in The Row’s new London flagship

The Row

At long last, The Row has opened a store in London. Located at 15 Carlos, the Annabelle Selldorf-designed space, writes AnOthermag.com’s features editor Jack Moss, “a lesson in discreet luxury”. The store houses the brand’s A/W19 men’s and women’s collections, along with a curation of jewellery, furniture, artwork and décor – plenty of things you’d love to purchase.

The Dior Bucket Hat

The women of Dior’s Autumn/Winter 2019 show were outfitted with a multitude of bucket hats – leather, leopard print and tartan among them, each finished with a delicate black veil. They were part of Maria Grazia Chiuri’s tribute to Britain’s postwar Teddy Girls, whose idiosyncratic style melded Edwardian pomp with winged eyeliner, beehives and, of course, bucket hats. Now, the headwear – originally designed for the show by milliner Stephen Jones – arrive at Dior boutiques in a variety of styles, including one in the iconic Dior Oblique monogrammed canvas.

Browns’ Conscious Edit

This week, Browns launches its Conscious Edit – a raft of environmentally-minded brands available for purchase in-store and online, from Chopova Lowena and Collina Strada, to Bethany Williams and Bode, among others. Additionally, Browns is launching a docuseries; episode one, which is out now, follows LVMH-nominee Duran Lantin as he creates a collection reworked from previous season styles, which launches October 10. Further episodes and collaborations will follow (Browns will also work on various in-house sustainability schemes, from packaging to retail concepts). “We know we have a long way to go,” says Ida Petersson, Browns’ buying director. “But over the past two years we have been actively looking at ways to do better and offer our customers the choice to shop more consciously.”

The New Kassl Editions Bags

The Amsterdam-based brand Kassl Editions describes itself as “a counterpoint to an era of excess and overproduction”, initially producing a single product – the overcoat – in various seasonal iterations (each is handmade by German manufacturer Josef Koch, whose ‘near-indestructible’ outerwear is used by the country’s fire brigade). Now, the label is introducing a new offering – bags. Made from the same hard-wearing fabrics as the brand’s outerwear and available in two styles – the soft and squashy ‘pillow bag’ or the market-style ‘square bag’ (find them on Matches and Net-a-Porter respectively) – they make for trusty travel companions.

Comme des Garçons’ New Fragrance

Comme des Garçons creates famously delicious scents and their latest one, Odeur du Théâtre du Châtelet, is no exception. Inspired by the history of the theatre – located in the place du Châtelet in the 1st arrondissement of Paris – mixed with the modernity of its new creative director Ruth Mackenzie, the fragrance is both floral and woody. “As we discussed at each stage the sample scents, we developed an understanding of how to balance surprise and beauty, the reality of life with the magic of a theatre, the dreams and the dangers,” says Mackenzie. “So what happens when a theatre and a fashion house work together.” Odeur du Théâtre du Châtelet launches at Dover Street Parfums Market in Paris today and worldwide, including Dover Street Market London, soon after.

Louis Vuitton’s Multi-Pochette

Louis Vuitton’s iconic pouch came into being in 1992 – some 27 years ago. This autumn, the house has released a new, contemporary edition of the bag, which can be customised with a mini coin purse and a mini pouch – a pouch for your pouch, if you will. Additionally, there are two kinds of handle that you can choose from: sporty (in green or pink) for the day, or chain, for the evening. Choices, choices...

Away’s Expandable Suitcases

Away designs some of the most luxuriant luggage around. Its suitcases are not only practical but are sleek, slick pieces of design. And while the brand – which was founded by Stephanie Korey and Jennifer Rubio in New York City, in 2015 – already has an impressive range, today it added an expandable line to its offering. Fitted with a woven nylon shell, these cases come with an exterior seam which can be unzipped, allowing for four-and-a-half centimetres more room. A godsend for over-packers around the world. Available from today, in four colours and four sizes, in-store and at awaytravel.com.
