December is a month for indulgence. Here, we present eight ways to treat yourself – from irresistible fragrances to a fashion collaboration from cult filmmaker Harmony Korine
Marni’s colourful, charitable glassware (above)
A colourful selection of hand-blown vases, bottles and glasses – each striped with amber, green, purple, pink, white and blue glass and crafted by artisans in Colombia – is available to buy in select Marni stores around the world this month. The beautiful glass pieces would make a welcome addition to any table, and each purchase can be considered guilt-free: with the collection, Marni is supporting the Heal Onlus Association’s ‘Future Brain’ project, which helps children being treated for cancer at the Bambino Gesù Hospital in Rome.
Loewe’s William De Morgan capsule collection
Jonathan Anderson has long drawn inspiration from the late 19th-century Arts and Crafts movement, recently culminating with a series of capsule collections at Loewe – where he is creative director – based on the movement’s most recognised names, William Morris and Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The third iteration, recently launched, centres on William De Morgan, a lesser-known but no less influential name remembered for his ceramic tiles, decorated with fantastical creatures and floral arabesques. Both motifs appear in the playful, craft-heavy mens- and womenswear collection, which spans richly decorated knitwear and outerwear, to numerous covetable leather accessories, for which the house is renowned.
Proenza Schouler’s limited edition PS1 by Harmony Korine
Cult filmmaker Harmony Korine has collaborated with New York-based label Proenza Schouler on a trio of limited-edition versions of the PS1 handbag, to celebrate the design’s 10th anniversary this year. First launched as part of the duo’s debut handbag line, the PS1 has since become a cult accessory, its simple satchel shape favoured by numerous celebrities, from Dakota Johnson to Kirsten Dunst. Featuring archival paintings by Korine, who also works as an artist, the three colourful styles will come in numbered editions of 400, available from today.
Sunspel’s first fragrance
Sunspel was founded in 1860 in Derbyshire to create simple tunics and undershirts; in recent decades it has become synonymous with no-frills mens- and womenswear – from polo and sweatshirts to underwear – made in Britain using beautiful, luxurious fabrics. A new fragrance line follows a similar rationale: created by perfumer Lyn Harris, ‘Oak Wood’ is an effortless blend of fresh citrus, cedarwood and sensual frankincense and amber, available as both an eau de parfum and a scented candle. “A fragrance to be part of an essentials wardrobe,” Harris says. “Accessible, modern and clean.”
Alexander McQueen’s Story bag
Alexander McQueen’s new bag, The Story, launches today as part of the brand’s pre-Spring/Summer 2020 collection. The bag’s classic, boxy shape features clever details – adjustable and removable straps, and gold hardware doubling up as a clutch handle – and comes in colours inspired by the rare flora referenced in collection’s exquisite clothes: from red and pink to khaki, black and white.
Panconesi’s ‘Constellation’ jewellery at Net-a-Porter
Marco Panconesi, a Balenciaga and Givenchy alumnus who now runs eponymous jewellery label Panconesi, has quickly found a legion of fans – including Rihanna, with whom he collaborated on her Fenty jewellery collection – for his offbeat jewel- and crystal-encrusted pieces which recall mid-century Italian costume jewellery (albeit in an offbeat manner: his signature piece is the playful ‘upside-down’ hoop). A capsule collection – titled ‘Constellation’ – arrives on Net-a-Porter this month, with 12 new pieces, from a sculptural gold vermeil ear cuff to a glittering ‘body chain’, each inspired by the “language of the stars”.
A cult skin serum from Vintner’s Daughter
The California-based skincare brand Vintner’s Daughter has arrived in the UK, to the delight of beauty obsessives who have long read about its two cult products: Active Botanical Serum and Active Treatment Essence. Vintner’s Daughter favours a long extraction process for its high-quality, natural ingredients – taking weeks, as opposed to hours – that makes for products packed with nutrients (the serum counts over 60) which work to correct and perfect the skin, resulting in an enviable glow.
Dior’s ‘Camouflage’ collection
Earlier this year, Maria Grazia Chiuri presented her Cruise 2020 collection for Dior in Morocco; this month, the first pieces from the collection arrive in stores. This first drop, titled ‘Dior Camouflage’ – named for a motif which appeared throughout the show – sees the ubiquitous camo print re-presented in a new and luxurious manner. Find a trio of the house’s iconic handbags – the Saddle, Mini Dior Book Tote, and Diorcamp – in midnight blue and khaki fil-coupé jacquard camo, alongside other accessories, including reversible ‘bob hats’ designed by British milliner Stephen Jones.
