Dean and Dan Caten have dressed everyone from Madonna to Beyoncé – women who are powerful and confident, and always true to themselves. Celebrating a quarter of a century of Dsquared2’s vibrant pop-cultural creativity, AnOther Magazine showcases pieces from their archive and nostalgia-tinged Spring/Summer 2020 collection. This season’s centrefold poster pays homage to the designers’ vision and high-octane style.

“We’re really proud we got this far – a lot of people don’t make it. We were different when we first arrived in Milan, in the fashion industry – it was tough. When we started, we said to each other this is our one shot – we can always go back to Canada but we have to try. That’s why we also chose to come to Europe, because if we went to New York it was just a bus ride home – we could have given up more easily. We wanted to put the ocean and a language barrier between us and our goal, we wanted to make it as difficult as possible to give up.

“Now, looking at everything we’ve done, we really want to focus on what our contribution to fashion is, on what really belongs to us – to Dsquared2. The 25th anniversary marks an important milestone – it is a time of celebration, a moment for us to reflect and be nostalgic. But it also pushes us to do more, be better, to focus on our identity – Canadian heritage, Italian tailoring, personal taste. Real clothes for real people. The Dsquared2 woman is about self-confidence, fierceness, being cool. She can be sexy, she can be elegant or sporty. She can be whatever she wants to be.”
