Launching September 1, Images will collate designer Simon Porte Jacquemus’ most transporting iPhone pictures

Simon Porte Jacquemus – the designer behind Jacquemus – has long been known for his colourful, sun-drenched Instagram account, which transports followers to far-off locales, from the lavender fields of his native Provence to the black-sand beaches of the Canary Islands. They often feature his cult accessories too, among them the vast (and Instagram-ubiquitous) Bomba hat to the Chiquito bagin ever-smaller sizes.

And, though several of these images are taken by his collaborators – including the French photographer Pierre-Ange Carlotti, who recently shot Bella Hadid, Barbie Ferreira and Steve Lacy at home over Zoom during lockdown – the majority are by the designer himself, captured via iPhone. Announced yesterday, these will form the subject of a new book Images, which will collate what the designer called “all my favourite iPhone images in one book”. It will launch next week on September 1, available on jacquemus.com.

Little more was revealed about the publication, though it promises to evoke the dreamy worldview Jacquemus the label has long evoked: the accompanying Instagram image showed the book’s title in a hot-pink typeface, while a preview of the interior reveals colourful images of a beach parasol, drinks on a table at a bar, and a boy roller skating down a sun-lit street. In the caption, Porte Jacquemus wrote that he was “so excited” about the upcoming release.

Images will mark the second photo book published by the designer, the first – Marseille je t’aime, released to coincide with a 2017 exhibition of the same name – explored the region in the south of France where Porte Jacquemus was born and raised, alongside collaborators including Clément Arnaud, Philippine Chaumont, David Luraschi and more. The region will no doubt feature too in the upcoming book: on the publication of Marseille je t’aime, he admitted to AnOther’s Ted Stansfield that his heart will always belong in the south. “I need people smiling, people singing in the streets, people who are more Mediterranean … I really miss that.”

Images is released on September 1, 2020 available on jacquemus.com.
