From a dog-inspired jewellery collection by Frank Ocean’s Homer to a seasonal rehaul full of Molly Goddard and Simone Rocha at Dover Street Market; here are the best things to add to your shopping list this August
Dover Street Market A/W22 Collections
Roll up, roll up – it’s that time of year when Dover Street Market has an epic seasonal rehaul. This Saturday, the legendary concept store will reopen its doors with new Autumn/Winter 2022 collections from the likes of Molly Goddard (who recently staged a transcendent tulle installation on the ground floor of the store), Simone Rocha, Kiko Kostadinov, Vaquera, Balenciaga and more, alongside a plethora of gothic, meticulously constructed pieces by Comme des Garçons brands including Junya Watanabe, Tao and Noir Kei Ninomiya.
Earlier this summer, pioneering British makeup artist Isamaya Ffrench finally debuted her own brand: Isamaya Beauty. Two years in the making, the line (and Steven Klein-lensed campaign) lifts from the aesthetics of fetish, and is designed for people who favour a more unconventional approach to beauty. “I encourage people to experiment with their choices, their style, their taste, without thinking too much,” she told AnOther at the time. Industrial, the brand’s debut five-piece collection, features an expansive eyeshadow palette, mascara, brow laminator, a vampy lip serum, and – most recently launched – a dewy glow serum called Skinlaq.
Acne Studios A/W22 collaboration with Martin Laborde
As part of Acne Studios’ A/W22 womenswear collection, the Swedish brand collaborated with Paris-born, Lisbon-based artist Martin Laborde. The artist’s everyday collage cut-outs of horses, leopard print and more – casually lifted from magazines, junk mail or publications found in waiting rooms – are plastered across plain white T-shirts, slinky green slip dresses and satin shirts. “To see my work on textiles and being worn, it’s like how my collages turn something into something else, and now become something else again,” says Laborde.
When A Dog Comes To Stay by Homer
Last summer, Frank Ocean launched his own luxury jewellery brand – Homer – to worldwide fandom, with a catalogue full of stunning images by Tyrone Lebon and Ian Kenneth Bird. Inspired by the American musician’s “childhood obsessions”, the brand’s colourful, cartoonish pendants are designed in New York and handmade in Italy (aside from the lab-grown diamonds, which are created in America). Now, Homer’s When A Dog Comes To Stay pendant collection has been updated in new colourways, alongside a collection of silk scarves and silicon keychains. “When a Dog Comes to Stay explores the dog as a symbol of one that walks lighter,” Ocean explained of the collection on Instagram. “A sheepdog, an Akita and a bull terrier are rendered in pixels as if to simplify the qualities that make them our family.”
Eye Bright Eye Cream by Haeckels
Located in the sunny(ish) climes of sandy Margate, the skincare and fragrance company has developed a range of products inspired by the salty goodness and varied textures of daily coastal life. Whether you’re hungover or just burnt out by life, a daily dab of Haeckels’ Eye Bright Eye Cream – an ultra-moisturising serum formulated to calm puffiness around the eye area and reduce the appearance of dark circles – and you’ll be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed in no time.
Jermaine Gallacher on Matches Fashion
London-based furniture dealer and homeware designer Jermaine Gallacher has debuted a series of sculptural zigzag candlesticks, bookends and ornamental objects bound to liven up your living room on Matches Fashion. Why zigzags? “I just think they have attitude and energy – both qualities I really admire in a person, so why not a candlestick?” Gallacher told AnOther of his collection of “ballsy, elegant homeware.”
Sublime Replenishing Night Masque by Aesop
For those looking for ways to rejuvenate their skin while sleeping look no further than Aesop’s Sublime Replenishing Night Masque. Packaged in the Australian skincare brand’s low-key, brown-hued containers, this light yet nourishing gel cream contains vitamins B, C, E and F, and offers immediate and sustained hydration to balance skin and brighten its appearance.
Tela – the Italian brand headed up by Federica Mora, who has previously worked with Max Mara and Dolce & Gabbana – has just dropped a new, minimalist bag. Titled ‘Titilla’, the Venetian calfskin bag comes in an array of colours – including pistachio and nero – and is the perfect, formal accompaniment for any working woman.
In digital clothing news, Dior Men’s creative director Kim Jones has designed a zesty yellow and grey pair of custom racing overalls (and a slick vintage car) for Gran Turismo 7 – a popular car-racing video game. The collaboration signals Dior’s first digital fashion partnership, with the virtual capsule collection launching inside the game on August 25 (Dior shoes, gloves and helmets are also available).
For more than a decade, Fred Perry has been collaborating with beloved Belgian fashion maverick Raf Simons on clothes that pay homage to the youth subcultures that align the two labels in sweet harmony. This month, they’ve unveiled a new drop celebrating the influence of northern England’s fashion and culture – in particular, Simons draws inspiration from northern soul, the music and dance movement which emerged from the 1960s mod scene. With a rich tapestry of musical and artistic influence, the regional spirit is abundant in its visual identity, which Simons cherry-picks motifs and paraphernalia from, decorating classic Fred Perry styles in patches and embroideries to form a collection that speaks to the significance of northern England’s spirited culture.
