Spikes, blocks, straps and wedges, we consider our favourite footwear from the S/S15 shows
From Chanel's watercolour striped knee-high boots to Comme des Garçons's avant-garde transparencies, the S/S15 shows were a well-heeled collection this season. Miuccia Prada played with printed wedges and bow-topped mules for her rebel girl gang at Miu Miu, while for Prada she presented peep-toe baroque sandals and signature Mary Janes. Gladiator sandals cropped up at Alexander McQueen and Rick Owens, complete with fierce spikes and perspex heels. "There was a Man Ray photo of Bronislava Nijinkska from the Ballet Russes that was at the back of my mind," explains Owens.
Elsewhere Christian Dior offered dainty hand-knitted ankle boots, each pair taking 60 hours to complete. Louis Vuitton won our award for Best Footwear for Nicolas Ghesquiere’s sculptural futuristic heels in blue and burgundy, while Maison Martin Margiela also stole the show with their surrealist stretch-jersey thigh-high boots. "The boot was inspired by traditional men's socks in a stereotypical print," Margiela revealed. "The concept is of reappropriating your husband's discarded and perhaps stretched-out socks and creating shoes from them." Here, we consider our favourite footwear from the collections, as illustrated by Patrick Morgan.
