Chalayan x AyaBambi and Ryan Heffington

The dynamism of street dance charges a performance of precise hand gestures, graphic silhouettes and mirrored attitudes

Ever since starting his eponymous label in 1994, Hussein Chalayan has been celebrated for his multi- disciplinary approach to fashion, incorporating the worlds of performance, design, art and technology into his pioneering work. He has also regularly worked with the medium of film – both to document the narrative of his clothing collections, and as an exclusively artistic practice. In 2005, he represented Turkey at the 51st Venice Biennale with a film starring Tilda Swinton. He has also exhibited solo shows at art galleries worldwide, from London’s Design Museum in 2009 to the Musée des Art Decoratifs in Paris in 2011.

Ryan Heffington is a choreographer, artist and director, who weaves seamlessly between the commercial, art, music and concert worlds with his unique style of choreography. From heartfelt emotional content to camp humour, his work sews a story that is human and accessible. Major credits include two Grammy Best Music Video nominations – for Sia’s Chandelier and Arcade Fire’s We Exist – and winning an MTV VMA for Best Choreography in 2014 for Chandelier. He has also collaborated with artists FKA Twigs, Sigur Rós, Lykke Li, Muse, Ke$ha, Little Dragon, and Icona Pop.

AyaBambi are a Japanese dance duo who have exploded onto the international scene. Beginning as a YouTube sensation, they have risen to prominence over the past year, recently dancing alongside Madonna. Dancers, photographers, choreographers and models, they have an individual and instantly recognisable style, and are known for bold and expressive performances. Their unity of style and dance, and sharply choreographed and high-energy routunes, make AyaBambi a striking and exciting new talent.

Jacob Sutton is a London-based photographer and director. His work focuses on movement and he has explored various aspects of contemporary dance culture in both his photographic and film work. He has contributed to publications including AnOther, Another Man, Numéro and Numéro Homme, and has worked on advertising campaigns for Armani, Lacoste, Burberry and Nike. He has directed numerous successful editorial films including L.E.D. Surfer and Lil Buck, which featured on NOWNESS.
