This season AnOther Magazine presents the valiant visionaries shaping our world

“Majesty. With sociopolitical structures shifting more extremely than they have done for decades, a sense of humanity – of emotion, honesty, heart, mind and the touch of the hand – has rarely seemed so vital,” writes Susannah Frankel in the Editor’s Letter for the S/S19 issue of AnOther Magazine. “If anything is key to our quality of life just now, then it is surely that.”

The majestic Lupita Nyong’o graces the cover of this issue, photographed by Willy Vanderperre and styled by Olivier Rizzo. Famed for her roles in Steve Mcqueen’s 12 Years a Slave and Oscar-nominated Marvel picture Black Panther, Nyong’o takes the lead in Jordan Peele’s upcoming film Us, released in March – speaking to Lynette Nylander, the Academy Award-winning actress discusses the power of storytelling, representation and how she’d walk off a cliff for Peele.

Susannah Frankel talks to Riccardo Tisci in the early days of his reign at British heritage brand Burberry, discussing his democratic new vision for the label. Accompanying the revealing interview, photographer Theo Sion and stylist and Burberry collaborator Max Pearmain capture the elegance of his inaugural collection.

In a rare conversation with visionary Rei Kawakubo, the designer lays out a new agenda for the future of fashion, while Craig McDean and Katie Shillingford frame the distinctly individual approaches of the Spring/Summer 2019 collections in Edit of the Season.

Paolo Roversi, Hannes Hetta, Jane How and Brianna Capozzi compose fashion cover stories with a radical elegance.

Björk guest-edits Document: a compendium of post-feminist thinkers, female philosophers and surreal folklore and fantasy. A candid and freewheeling exchange between the Icelandic artist and writer and lucid-thinker Maggie Nelson (her philosophical reveries The Argonauts, Bluets and series of essays The Art of Cruelty have long-inspired Björk) explores the need to clear a space where new sound can grow.

Artist Christian Marclay recontextualises his collaboration with Celine by Hedi Slimane in an exclusive folio.

In a preview of Sterling Ruby’s new show, DAMNATION, the artist casts a hard stare at incarceration and artistic repression. We look at Olivier Theyskens’ couture-like handiwork, Simone Rocha’s twisted traditionalism and Miuccia Prada’s latest collaboration with three leading female architects. While an insight on the Chanel Métiers d’Art Egyptomania-inspired show proffers treasure. Charles Atlas, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Siri Hustvedt, Telfar Clemens, Akram Khan and many more consider their most powerful influences.

PLUS: the best of S/S19 as seen by Sam Rock, Tyler Mitchell and Robbie SpencerCasper Sejersen and Camille Bidault-Waddington, Daniel Shea, Senta SimondAlice Goddard and Talia Chetrit. And finally, AnOther Way to Wear offers a lateral look at the trends, photographed by Tim Elkaïm and styled by Agata Belcen and Nell Kalonji.

The S/S19 issue of AnOther Magazine is on sale internationally from February 14, 2019.
